In 1897 for the first time ever “living advertisement” was announced in Berlin. Only one year later, Oskar Messter compiled cinema commercials in his distribution catalogue. In 1910 Julius Pinschewer formed the first production company for “living posters” in Berlin. With the establishment of REKLAME IN LICHTSPIELTHEATERN AG in 1924, short RELITA, the first professional hub beetween advertisers and cinema exhibitors became available. Together with the development of the department of advertising film production, advertisers now got the opportunity to order film production and its distribution from a single source, even nowadays.
In the last century numerous innovations and investments were made, like changes from black and white to color, silent to sound, Academy ratio to CinemaScope and widescreen, mono to stereo and later multichannel sound. In 1997 we celebrated 100 years of cinema advertising.
In the new millenium the basic transformation from analogue to digital technologies got serious, starting in film production. With the delivery of our last film print a year previously, in 2014 we had to say good-bye to 35mm-film, which has accompanied the company’s history for 90 years. Remaining active with a Service Center in Berlin, the move of the headquarters and completely replaced technical departement to a more central location in Germany nearby Hanover opens a lot of space for ideas, innovations and further growth. Still closely related to the cinema industry, today RELITA is a registered trademark of Matthias Munke. Performance and commitment are in national and local distribution of cinema commercials and, of course, creating “moving moments”.
